A Mis-Match made in Heaven

I couldn't wait till I had a chance to sit down and knit these cute little mis-matched mittens! I saw a similar concept in a french knitting magazine and I just had to make my own...Aren't they just so rock-n-roll?!

I got the idea from a pattern I saw in a french magazine. Because I suck and I don't read grid-form patterns really well...I ended up creating my own pattern and hopefully...they will fit the little hands they were destined for :)

And here is a picture of the "Hermione" hat I knitted on the train to Scotland...it's sadly a bit too big, but still fits and looks rather smashing if I may say so myself. It was my first experience knitting cables, and they turned out to be much simpler than I had originally believed them to be...(yay for simple things that look complex!).

Baby Hat for Mila

My first baby hat is now (almost) finished...

After having re-started this hat 4 times before realizing that the pattern was written to be knit on two needles and not in the round...I succeeded in completing this mini hat!

There is something so precious about knitting with tiny white lengths of soft cotton. I try not to recall how many times I was asked if I was expecting. I should really start hitting the gym more often...is what this experience has led me to think. :)

I am supposed to embroider the future baby's name into the hat...which I have no idea how to do. Hopefully some patient lady on youtube will show me how to do that.

I made some "personal" adjustments to the pattern for any future usage...as I detest knitting on two needles and would much prefer suggesting that anyone who is interested in making this hat should knit it in the round...to avoid any ANNOYING sewing duties afterwards.

Amended pattern and (original pattern) soon to come.

The Weighted Companion Cube

Here is the miniature weighted companion cube along with the homemade "The Cake is a Lie!" wrapping paper I made for a friend's birthday gift. I don't really think this needs further explanation for those of you who have played Portal.

I think he turned out to be pretty awesome.

Materials used: Cardboard, Foam, Acrylic Paint
Time Spent: I have no idea, I was watching Firefly

A Cookie within a Cookie

Oh beautiful summertime, how it makes us easily forget our silly blogging promises...

Anyway, here is a quick post to show off the Oreo cookies within chocolate chip cookies I attempted last night. *SUGAR RUSH*

dsksfjdfldfgklskjlfgkjdfdkfh!!!!!

My friend's little brother made these and I just had to try it myself after being told by several different sources that it was like eating a cake within a cake. And who hasn't done that?

Mike D

Hello there,

I'm back from Vegas and already knitting!

Here is the CUTEST bat EVER: Mr. Mike D. Yes like the Beastie Boy. I knit him while I was listening to their new album, so I felt it was appropriate. Maybe I should give him some ice?

Mug Cosies for a Great Friend

Ah...finally I can post these!! I finally gave these to my friend Sarah for her birthday. A set of 4 knit mug cosies. Aren't they so adorable?
I spent a long time searching for just-the-right pattern online...and found nothing to my liking. I ended up purchasing a pattern which made absolutely no sense, so I decided once again to create my own little pattern for this project! I choose to make the entire set out of the "Rasperberry stitch". I had a lot people ask me if this stitch is difficult to make, and it is absolutely not, if anyone would like to know how to make it, let me know and I will email you the instructions. But even easier would be just to search the stitch type on youtube and watch a friendly lady show you how to knit it!

I completed them by sewing a ribbon on each side, so that they could be adjusted to any mug type. I also added some anti-slip "grippy" like things on the back of each one to stop them from sliding around so much. That was my own idea. So proud.

Now my friend Sarah can continue her love story with coffee, all the while keeping her hands nice and safe. Also, they are so environmentally friendly! Next step would be to make a little travel pouch for them!!

Showcasing some of my friend's art

-Have my own name written on a cookie "check"

What more can I ask for? Here is a beautiful cookie made for me by my friend Julie.

I heard "Merci Jamie" cookies are currently all the rage at Hogwarts.

It's now really difficult to concentrate while writing this post because I'm currently watching my face being distorted in all sorts of horrifying ways as my brother is creating a Mii out of my face on his new 3D DS.

I never realized I had such a manly chin.

Aaaaaaand back to the original purpose of my post. The second picture here shows a wonderful book I received for my Birthday from my multi talented friend Sarah.

It was beautifully handmade by the one and only Ms. Tevyaw. How can I ask for a better gift than this? She created most of the paper herself, as well as designed the cover and sewed the entire thing together. Hard work I know. I've sewed a book before. Not easy work.

Ok I think I can't concentrate on this nice dedication post I was planning out. I'm now being subjected to several different versions of my voice, having been recorded while I was unawares, being re-mixed into awful high-pitched , crazy sounds.

A Pictureless Post...

Do I do this? Do I make pictureless posts?

Aha, I guess that I do participate now in this madness!
Very exciting knitting projects coming soon to a Kookaberries blog near you!

I'm so excited to share. Really. I just can't post them yet.

Meet Matheson

Yesterday marked the important creation date of Mr. Matheson (see picture to the left). He was very adamant that he should be photographed in front of this map, because this little dude is going places and he's super excited about it!

I had to convince him not to pack too much stuff so he would have more room to bring souvenirs on his way back home...

At the last minute he panicked and loudly proclaimed that there was no way he was going anywhere without bringing at least 10 pairs of socks and a few of his favorite books. (I saw him sneak them into his pocket while he thought I wasn't looking).

I had to endure hours of Matheson blabbering on about how he hopes he'll get a window seat, and how he hopes the plane food will be decent enough to eat.

Before leaving, I caught some sweet moments between him Horace:

I'm pretty sure Horace is just having a hard time saying good bye.

A new Bunny named "Squishy"

And here I write a quick little post (in between fighting with the Loch Ness monster of the internet, handing in an assignment for school...and maybe I'm eating a spoonful of Nutella too...)

Here is a little bunny I knit a while back for my boyfriends younger sister, and he was named, and so shall be named "Squishy" ...

yes. enjoy. P.S. Black is hard to photograph nicely.

pattern created by Kookaberries 2011. I should write these patterns down right? Uh-oh.

A very special send off

Et Voila!

Here is a pic of last night's star, Alex's suitcase cake! (*note, unfortunately not made by me, but by a super duper cake making artist!).

This awesome cake idea came from Alex's momma and sista :)

The flags and airport codes represent all the places she has travelled and the suitcase tag represents her next stop....

I want to eat that cake all over again.!!!

And also, here is a pic of the gift I got Alex, (I had to photograph and play with it a little bit right? I was so excited to be holding this!!!):

Horus the Hexapus!!!

Meet Horus, the Hexapus!

Stress does a strange thing to me...does anyone else feel the undeniable urge to knit whimsical, hexapus' when they're feeling specially stressed?

Here are a few quick shots taken of Horus lounging around the apartment this afternoon:

He seems to be having such a
good time right? I am incredibly jealous right now.
I should have mixed him a tiny pina colada.

Off to finish some last minute homework I go!

I named him Smaug, because I am reading The Hobbit right now...

Here's my finished knitted Monster stuffy! (Named Smaug a/p post title). He took me exactly a whole day....only minor knitting pauses involved...I was following a pattern I purchased but made a few personal adjustments as 1) I didn't have enough wool to make him completely striped and 2) making things two colors takes so much longer (it was my first time and I am not happy that some parts were not perfectly aligned...!!!) I wish his head would of turned out a little less square and a little more round as in the pattern I was following...but I still adore him. Once something already has a mouth and eyes ...its too late it already has a personality and I gotta' love him just the way he is! For now, I leave him on my desk at work, where he guards my pens and other such weapons/work tools for me.

Christmas Hats

Here are the hats I made as gifts for Christmas...I used a simple pattern, but it was perfect for having to knit approx. 20 hats...(Complete with home-made recycled gift wrapping paper underneath).

The pair of mittens seen is yes, my first pair. And those I kept for myself :) They are so soft as they are made of baby alpaca wool. baby heave.

Monday, January 10, 2011

In keeping with my new years resolution (which I just decided on now Jan 10th), I decided to post today the felted slippers I made for my lovely friend Sarah for Christmas. Unfortunately, they turned out a little big, but as they are slippers I think it was forgiven of them. Hopefully my next pair will be nicer and will not take 6 loads of laundry to felt...

Meet Charlie-Tokumi and Billy the knitted bunnies! After many hours and days of slaving away by knitting many hats for Christmas, I was finally able to work on a little guilty pleasure project which made an awesome use of all my left-over wool.

I got the pattern from this great site:

http://www.rebeccadanger.typepad.com/

I made the bunnies "my-own" by giving them fashionable 100% alpaca wool knit scarves.

There are many other awesome projects on the above mentioned website I would love to try out! (If only I had more time, less work, more money and less school eh!)

I especially love the sewed plushie-monsters. If only I could sew! (Well I can, but it usually looks like a bear did it....)

I gave these lovely bunnies away as gifts and they were greatly loved and appreciated. I could make a million of these!
